Survive the Terror on Alcatraz Island: Resident Evil Death Island Trailer Unleashed!

A new CGI film dubbed Resident Evil Death Island, starring Leon, Chris, and Jill from Capcom’s survival horror game, was previewed in a surprise video released earlier today. The new film looks to follow the events of 2017’s Resident Evil: Vendetta, which took place between the events of Resident Evil 6 and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and was originally directed and written by Takanori Tsujimoto.

Fukami, widely known for his work on the Psycho-Pass anime, returns as a writer for Death Island, with Eiichiro Hasumi (Assassination Classroom) directing. The quick 30-second teaser trailer (via IGN) takes little time in establishing the scenario for three of the most beloved RE protagonists to get together and investigate a zombie outbreak in San Francisco. The outbreak’s victims appear to have one thing in common: they all visited the historic prison island of Alcatraz.

The clip shows an older, more experienced, and rougher Leon, which helps to generate anticipation among fans anxious to see him revived in Resident Evil 4 Remake. The film also shows glimpses from inside the jail as well as what appear to be underwater variations of the Licker monsters from early RE games being unleashed into the island’s waterways. This trailer promises lots of T-virus action for series fans, with a huge Tyrant-like creature lurking in the depths, and finishes with a final disclosure of Jill Valentine’s presence – who was strangely absent from Vendetta’s plot.

A little shot of a coffee cup on a café table with the name “Rebecca” scrawled on it is also noteworthy for Vendetta fans, confirming the return of former S.T.A.R.S unit member Rebecca Chambers, who played a crucial part in the previous film. Resident Evil Death Island is being released by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and will be available globally in the summer of 2023 – we’re confident that fans will like it more than the Netflix live-action program.
