With the unexpected postponement of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor at the end of January, fans were naturally disappointed that they would have to wait a little longer for their next trip to a galaxy far, far away. Despite the delay, Respawn has been gracious enough to provide players with 9 minutes of new gameplay footage to enjoy and dissect, complete with a new planet called Koboh to explore and showcasing loads of new gameplay we can expect in the upcoming sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which is set to release in 2019.
The new film, which was obtained by IGN First, begins by showcasing its new planet Koboh, with broad vistas of rocky terrain, mountains, patches of grass and greenery, and a variety of species in the distance. We may expect plenty of spectacles and diverse landscapes to explore, like in the last game. We also get a glance at some of Cal’s navigation aids, such as the return of beacons to identify spots of interest and a comprehensive map to assist him explore the vast planets.
From there, we swiftly come to the true centerpiece of this new gameplay footage: the extended fighting. Cal is seen employing more skills and maneuvers in the film than before, the most obvious being the many ways he wields his lightsabers, switching between a single blade to dual-edged and dual wielding on the fly to react to the varied foes he confronts. We also get a glimpse of some of the new force abilities that will be available in the game, with Cal lifting foes from the ground before shoving them away and, at one point, unleashing what looks to be a new ultimate ability that slows time and the monsters around him.
This 9-minute gameplay clip will definitely raise anticipation for the next action-adventure game while also putting some fans at rest who were concerned about the game’s unexpected delay. It’s only a somewhat longer wait before the game’s April 28 release. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
