Let us travel to the Cave of Monsters…
As the year comes to a close, Hamster Corp’s retro aficionados have one more item for 2022, strengthening the Arcade Archives portfolio with none other than Taito’s Bubble Bobble, one of the most iconic video games of all time.
Bubble Bobble, which debuted in the newly revitalized arcade sector in 1986, essentially requires no introduction. One or two players climb into the scaly suits of bubble-blowing dinosaurs Bub and Bob as they descend through 100 levels of monsters and mayhem in search of their kidnapped sweethearts. Bubble Bobble offered arcade players with one helluva battle, pitting them against a slew of bizarre and instantly memorable adversaries, like the renowned Baron Von Blubba, and it remains a fun and intriguing experience decades after.
Bubble Bobble would become one of the most commercially successful arcade games of its day, thanks to its super-cute characters, colorful universe, and immediately identifiable theme tune, leading to a series of home ports, several sequels and spin-offs, and a position in game history. Bub and Bob’s adventures continued in 1987’s Rainbow Islands, and they made a major reappearance with the blockbuster smash hit series Puzzle Bobble. Not to mention the numerous remakes, remasters, and rereleases, as well as Bub and Bob’s regular guest cameos in many of Taito’s other successes.
Bubble Bobble is now available for download on PS4 and Nintendo Switch for about $8.
